The Future
To be able to make rough terrain forklifts as efficient as possible, many attachments have been designed and made like winches, booms, and rotating fork carriages, to allow the forklift to place materials more precisely. The articulating booms or booms come with 2 different extendible arms and can reach up and over structures in order to place loads in the center of upper floors or on interior roof slope settings. New attachments and products are being made and designed all the time and will debut in the future.
With extra safety features becoming more prevalent, several improvements have been made. For instance, load-reach management devices are able to automatically restrict the forklift's reach, based on the load being handled rather than depending on the operator. Pressure sensors are used in order\to be able to determine the load weight. This information is sent to a small electronic memory device that had all the load-reach limitations pre-programmed into it.
When the load is being placed into position, the memory will compare the boom's extension and the boom's angle with the safety limits. There is an important lock-up device or a warning system that prevents the operator from over-reaching and possibly causing the forklift to tip over or the boom to fail.
The Walkie-Rider, Rider or Walkie is a Motorized Pallet Truck which is essentially a motorized type of a pallet jack. They come in both "Walkie" models as well as "Rider" versions.
Just as the name implies, the walkie type is designed for the operator to walk along with the unit as they move cargo. The Rider model on the other hand, uses a small platform for which the operator stands on. The rider models are ideal for frequent moving of loads over extended distances in manufacturing applications and warehouses. They are really fast and maneuverable.
It is not recommended to lift and move tall or unstable loads since there are no safety cages on these models. A rider can be the best answer if you are looking for a cheap way of moving loads from one place to another. If though, you should transport heavy loads short distances, and prefer to utilize a more employee-friendly unit rather than a pallet jack, the walkie model might be the right choice.
Order Selector
An Order Selector also goes by the name of Order picker. This equipment is particularly designed for manual handling of less-than-pallet-load quantities in racking. There are fixed forks connected to a platform in the Man-up design. This platform elevates both the operator and the load in order to facilitate manual unloading and loading from racking areas.
Usually, the order selector is a very narrow aisle vehicle which could function in smaller aisles. They are really useful pieces of machinery in cycle counting situations as well as in physical inventories. Order selectors are available in lift heights up to forty feet high, though models which range in the 20 to thirty foot range are much more common.
