How to Handle a Pneumatic Forklift
Widely used in delivery plants, the pneumatic forklift or pallet vehicle, may be used to carry materials that are positioned on top of pallets. A pneumatic forklift typically has a set of steel blades mounted on a wheeled counterweight that also has a pump. The pump is used to raise and lower the blades.
It is important to visually check the pallet lift prior to loading any supplies and to make sure the handles move smoothly, the pallet truck turns appropriately, and the jack is clear of any potential obstructions. Check the freight to make certain that there will be minimal opportunities for anything to fall off during lifting and moving. Discharge any air in the pump and lower the blades to the ground by squeezing the lever installed on the inside of the metal ring on the end of the lever. Run the forks into the slots in the pallet and make sure the forks are centered so that the pallets’ mass is evenly spread.
By pumping the pneumatic jack handle the forks will go up from the floor. Once there is full clearance, you can discontinue pumping as there is no need to elevate the lift to any further extent. To move the pallet lift, you can tow the handle behind you. It is not recommended to push the pallet truck. There will be a large amount of momentum present. Avoid quick or sharp turns and you should not stop too suddenly. Gently bring the pallet to a halt where you would like to park it. Squeeze the lever within the handle end to return the forks to the floor. Withdraw the blades and return the pallet jack to a suitable parking area or continue onto the next task.

You would need to obtain a forklift dump bucket, either the typical unit or the self-dumping model. The self-dumping model is the best as it allows for dumping without sloping the forks. Set the dump bucket flat on the ground, turn the lift truck on, secure the seat belt and release the parking brake. Move forward bit by bit whilst slightly elevating the prongs two to three inches above the ground by applying the "up" lever. Slide the forks into the slots of the hopper until they cannot slide in any more. Fill the dump bucket up with whatever object or materials that is to be thrown. Use the "up" lever and raise the hopper until it is higher than eye level so as to ensure visibility. Move frontward until reaching the trash dumpster and next raise the hopper until it clears the bin by one or two feet and proceed frontward until the forklift is touching the exterior of the dumpster.
Upon contact with the dumpster the self-dumping hoppers will automatically unload their cargo. Traditional hoppers or dump buckets would require the use of a tilt lever to angle the prongs down until they manage a forty five degree angle. When the contents dump out, put back the prongs to the flat position. Lower the prongs back to floor level previous to returning to the facility.
