Types of Articulating Man Lifts
Man lifts are available in both electric-powered and engine-powered models. These machines are made up to complete a range of applications depending on the function and the industry. There are several outdoor lifts which could rise up more than 140 feet and have a sixty nine foot horizontal lift. There are several lifts which are specially made for small spaces. These units could rise 36 feet and extend 21 feet.
Generally, electric powered man lifts are used on concrete slabs indoors. They normally have slim designs so as to fit into narrow spaces easily. Engine-powered man lifts normally operate on diesel, propane and gas. They are mainly designed for outdoor applications.
Electric Man Lifts
The electric man lift is best suited for indoor applications as they are designed smaller, more able to fit through standard doorways and fit in tight spaces. These models do not contribute to air pollution and can maneuver around blockages and barriers, while still reaching overhead work places.
Some electric man lifts have a rotating platform that enables for more precise movements. The controls of the lift have been engineered to apply efficiency and accuracy. The electric lifts are offered in numerous sizes. They could be utilized in places with high ceilings or in small warehouses. The electric drives utilize rechargeable batteries which can be recharged after the shift ends.
Engine-Powered Lifts
The engine-powered units of articulating lifts are available for all kinds of terrain. Some kinds are fitted with legs which hoist the body of the lift off its wheels in order to create a very stable platform. There are other units that are particularly made for uneven and rough terrain. The majority of the lifts are able to handle 500 pounds. Some models could even take on 600 pound loads. In these heavy-duty circumstances, the machine could articulate 69 feet out in any direction or over 140 feet high.
During the last decade, telehandlers, also referred to as rough terrain variable reach forklifts, have surpassed the popularity of powered mobile machinery. These equipment have become the gem of the construction industry and with excellent reason. These types of equipment are versatile, very strong and useful. As the number of manufacturers and models has exploded during the last 5 years or so, there are now a number of these machines readily available on the market.
In technical terms, a telehandler is considered to be an ITA* Class 7 Powered Industrial Truck. This description means it is a rough terrain forklift, but just in name only. Any of the similarities between a telehandler and a vertical mast type forklift literally ends on operation and on sight. There are several other significant distinctions between the two machines discussed below.
A telehandler has an entirely different look as it is fitted with a horizontal boom rather than a vertical mast. From a distance, a telehandler with a jib attachment can look more like a mobile crane rather than a forklift. The boom is able to telescope or extend and retract as long as 30 feet and beyond that depends on the specific unit. The boom could also elevate to an angle from horizontal to around seventy degrees. Telehandlers have earned the nickname of "zoom booms" because of their ability to telescope. This name has become rather famous with the operators.
"Transaction" is another optional boom related function. Telehandlers which are outfitted with this option have a boom that is mounted on the chassis in such a way that when the operator activates it, the entire boom to travel forward and back, especially for distances up to eight feet or so. One of the key benefits of this function is that it allows the forks to be withdrawn from a load with no snags or cleanly and the forks can be inserted underneath cleanly, regardless of the boom angle.
The construction business have been revolutionized by zoom booms. They could accomplish numerous jobs which used to take a lot more time and man-power to finish.
