North Las Vegas is a city in Nevada, USA. The metropolis is situated in the Las Vegas metropolitan area. Part of Clark County, North Las Vegas occupies 203 square kilometers of land in the southwest Mojave Desert, north and east of Las Vegas.
The city of North Las Vegas is served by major highways I-15 and CC-215. Transit service all over the metropolitan area of Las Vegas is provided by RTC Transit. McCarran International Airport, located south of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas, handles both international and local airline travel. The North Las Vegas Airport handles tourist travel and business travel. Tours to the Grand Canyon are even provided by this airport.
Together with the cities of Henderson and Las Vegas, the city of North Las Vegas is situated within the Las Vegas Valley. The Valley is is part of the Las Vegas-Paradise metropolitan area, which consists of all of Clark County. This Valley supports the highest concentration of population in the entire state of Nevada. The population of the metropolitan area is currently roughly 2 million. The Valley is defined by a 1,600 km2 basin, surrounded by the Sheep Mountains towards the north, the Muddy Mountains to the east, the Spring Mountains to the west, the Black Mountains towards the south.
The whole area usually goes by the names Las Vegas and Vegas or could be referred to as the city, the valley and the strip. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has the right to use the names as a brand.
North Las Vegas has been suffering from high unemployment and various economic difficulties. Future employment growth for the city of North Las Vegas is expected to be more than 20%.
